MILESTONE FOR LOS ANGELES COUNTY

Community Voices members from the Crystal Stairs, Inc. chapter are engaged in a conversation with the L.A. County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas' office about the recent reductions the to CalWORKs Program Single Payment Allocation Funding Reduction and the long-term impact of parents' exemption from work requirements. This reduction will give parents caring for children under the age of 2 or two or more children under the age of 6 an exemption from work participation requirements.

On August 21st, 2009 7 Child Care Providers from S. Los Angeles and Inglewood met with Linda A, Smith, Ed.D., Senior Deputy for Human Development and Services and F. Dorrinne Jordan, Senior Deputy for Budget Accountability and Advocacy. That discussion resulted in a request for Communty Voices to propose a list of recommendations to modify this reduction. The providers have prepared a list of recommendations that are being reviewed by Sydney Kamlager, Director of External Affairs at Crystal Stairs, Inc. These recommendations will soon be presented to the Supervisor's office at an upcomming Town Hall Meeting, with the intention of the Supervisor's office presenting them to DPSS.

Community Voices will keep you posted on the developments of this milestone for Child Care Providers in Los Angeles County.
