On Wednesday, July 14, CEO Holly Mitchell attended the State UN-Fair rally organized by Parent Voices at the California State Fair in Sacramento. The rally had various activities that were symbolic to the peril of the budget cuts on California safety net, including child care and CalWORKs: These activities included, wheel of misfortune, soup line, and pin the “Revenue” on the Governor among others. Many other advocacy efforts are being conducted throughout the state by a coalition of organizations against these budget cuts. Here, in the Los Angeles County area, Community Voices has been active by conducting various activities, including;
· A petition letter campaign that resulted in the collection of 3,000 letters from parents, providers and community members.
· Community Voices brought 200 members to the June 15 rally to demonstrate in front of the Governor’s office in down town
· Paid a visit to various legislative members including Karen Bass, Rod Wright, Mike Davis
· Town Hall meetings.
